“If you ask me in regard to the precepts of the Christian Religion, I will answer, first, second, and third, Humility.”
Calvin then comments on what humility is:
By humility he means not when a man, with a consciousness of some virtue, refrains from pride, but when he truly feels that he has no refuge but in humility.” (Calvin’s Institutes, section 2.2.11)
True humility is finding oneself tucked away in Christ, realizing there is no other hope for the sinner. Show me a person who truly understands this and lives it out in their daily life I will show you a person who is humble and who can be reproved for his sin and who is able to reprove others in a gentle manner.
