This week we explored questions 22-24 of the Heidelberg Catechism by looking at the first 6 verses of Romans. These questions address what a Christian must believe and the answer is all of the gospel promises given in the Scriptures. In Romans Paul echoes the belief that the gospel was promised before Christ in the prophets. Let us never forget that the Old Testament speaks about the human nature of Christ, the divine rule of the Son of God, the suffering servant, the miraculous conception, the birth in Bethlehem, the promised Holy Spirit, the rule of God, the crucifixion and many other aspect of Christ and his ministry. But Christians must not only believe the promises of God in the Scriptures, Paul also speaks about obedience to the faith. Part of being a Christian and believing the gospel is obeying the word.
